23 - 26 November 2017

Electrical Safety First’s 7th (Annual) Product Safety Conference ‘Improving product safety in an ever-changing world’ which took place on 23rd November 2017. The conference was a great success, offering a range of presentations from industry experts that covered issues concerning consumer product safety, and discussion for everyone to participate.

We were delighted to welcome an array of organisations throughout the product supply chain, including retailers, manufacturers, legal services, product testing houses, regulators, safety professionals as well as Government bodies.

Our keynote speaker, Minister of State for Small Business, Consumers and Corporate Responsibility, Margot James provided details of the Government plans to protect consumers from unsafe products in the market.

Chaired by Anne Ferguson, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Electrical Safety First, the conference began by outlining the implications of Brexit on product safety and market surveillance, including the development of a Public Available Specification (PAS), as well as discussing the importance of due diligence for retailers and importers. The afternoon session covered the safety issues throughout the life of an electrical product, in particular end of life and issues arising from recycling and re-manufacturing. Based on our seminar last April on Lithium-ion batteries, the panel discussed how to mitigate risk in transporting lithium batteries. We were also delighted to announce the winner of the Safety Innovation Award was Verv, a Green Running Brand.

The conference was followed by an evening drinks reception which provided further networking opportunities.
